When founding the Art-Insurance & Consulting Company Barta & Partners in 1996, Nikolaus Barta addressed an urgent need on the insurance market. Barta & Partners is the only consulting company in Austria specialising exclusively in insuring fine art and valuable private property. With its strong and innovative product portfolio and its unique service offers, Barta & Partners has not only become a well-established institution in the Austrian market but also in Russia and the USA. Within a few years, the company has become a successful international player in the art insurance business.

Our success

The secret of success of Barta & Partners is not only the concept of offering individual insurance policies tailored to suit the specific needs of each client but also a competent team of insurance and art professionals. Thus it was possible to win a number of well-esteemed clients, most notably the Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon, the wandering exhibition “Tut-Ench-Amun“ and the exhibition “Giorgione – myth and enigma“ in the Museum of Art History in Vienna. Barta & Partners has further been responsible for insuring the three Klimt paintings that were restored to its original owner during their transport as well as their exhibition in the Los Angeles County Museum.

A competent team with extensive experience

Barta & Partners has been managed by insurance specialist Nikolaus Barta ever since it was founded. Barta can rely on extensive experience in the art insurance business as he took part in establishing the art insurance branch of Nordstern Insurance and subsequently worked for the AXA Group.

Barta & Partners currently employs 13 members of staff. The team consists of experienced art historians and insurance professionals with outstanding expertise and full commitment to the client.

International network of specialists

Barta & Partners has access to an extensive network on the art market, spanning from leading international insurance companies like Lloyds of London to independent security firms, experienced restorers and appraisers such as those working with Christie’s Expert Services or the Dorotheum. This networking ensures that Barta & Partners can serve its clients in the best possible way.

Barta & Partner are member of "The Art Loss Register", a worldwide database for registering and service for recovering stolen works of art and other valuable possessions.
